192(8 or 9) R.E.O. Speedwagon
Make: R.E.O. (Ransom. Eli. Olds. Also started Oldsmobile. Only man to have two auto companies operating with his name on them at the same time)
Type: Chassis Cab Truck, 1 ¼ Ton
Probably a flatbed originally. These trucks really paved the way for the modern local trucking we are so familiar with today.
Originally equipped with a Hercules flathead six producing 70 horse, mated to (Probably) a Borg Warner T90 three speed (or similar)
Cab is wood frame with a tin skin. Windshield opens and it had retractable windows, a fairly advanced feature at the time.
When last this project was active, the owner was going to marry it to a fifties vintage slide in camper to make a small self propelled streetrod camper, with which to pull his other streetrod to the shows. As such he installed a Ford 351 Windsor engine and automatic transmission.
We purchased it to preserve it from the crusher and have had little plans for it ‘till recently. We intend to install the Mitsubishi FK turbodiesel engine we have, along with two heavy winches and an ancient wrecker boom the Old Man built sixty odd years ago. This will leave us with a double mechanical winched truck with a neat homebuilt split boom wrecker body and all the torque we could ever need to move mountains. Kinda trying to channel the Federal here a little bit. (Which I may have located in Cornwall.)
